I thought that I'd take a blog entry to share that today, 12.4.09, is our fifth wedding anniversary. It's so hard to believe that it's been that long since we began our journey together. The wedding was fairly low-key but kept with many of my wife's South Asian traditions. This little snapshot was taken by my sister-in-law at the reception and it's one of my favorites. Sadaf looks phenomenal as she did in all the photos and I look acceptable. All the others are decidedly "Beauty and the Beast." Seriously though, I am so lucky to have her in my life. I wouldn't be anywhere mentally, spiritually, or professionally if it wasn't for her unwavering love and support.
At every place setting at the reception we had a copy of the following poem printed. It was written by the 13th century Sufi mystic Mevlana Jelaluddin Rumi
This Marriage
May these vows of marriage be blessed.
May it be sweet milk,
this marriage, like wine and halvah.
May this marriage offer fruit and shade
like the date palm.
May this marriage be full of laughter,
our every day a day in paradise.
May this marriage be a sign of compassion,
as seal of happiness here and hereafter.
May this marriage have a fair face and a good name,
an omen as welcome
as the moon in a clear blue sky.
I am out of words to describe
how spirit mingles in this marriage.

Well Happy Anniversary Michael! Hope you have a wonderful day!
